Gill-More's teammates weigh in on Gilly's impact
Don Gill-More
"It's been a long time (since then), but he was pretty good as a sweeper/stopper guy. In the old days, he was very good. In fact, our roles were reversed. I was the one up front. Heck, you know what, on our last team, moi had a four-goal game. Yeah, out at Marymoor. It was division 4, 15 years ago. Moi. But without him, goals would be few and far between. We don't have anyone to pick it up otherwise. We'd have about half, two-thirds of what we have without him."
Greg Heim:
"Gill-More is almost the entire Tire offense. That's my assessment."
Scot Rogers:
"He's in the right place at the right time. He's got height, so he's always good in the air. He finds the right spot ... he knows where to go on the field. He knows how to get open. Without him, we'd have a higher percentage of penalty kicks made, but I don't know."
Scott Strasser:
"Mr. Superstar - one of the greatest additions to the team. Not to give him an ego trip, but at the position of forward, he's a great asset: height, skill, knowledge base, all that. I've played with him since middle school. He's got the skill, knows how to place the ball. He's played with higher division teams like at the U-Dub, and in California so he was able to get better by playing with Sounders-quality people and up. He's a really nice guy - always laughing, always smiling."
Tim Farley:
"Without question, Mike has been the MVP of the team for a long time going now. I trust the team, sure, but the moment I see that orange hat over that bright yellow jacket making his way from the parking lot to the field, I know we have increased our chances of not losing that game by that much. Gilly's been a stud and there are many games where we know it if he wasn't there. We're definitely a better team with him than without him."
Mariam Araujo, wife
"I am most especially proud of how Mike achieved the accomplishment, by being a team player. He’s pretty level-headed about it - I think it’s one of the few areas he doesn’t have a big head (e.g. his hair, having owned a Firebird)."
Dean Lencioni
"Oh, Christ. His numbers ... we wouldn't be where we are now without him, let's put it that way. His numbers speak for themselves. He's in shape - he's like a 22-year-old at 38. I've loved being his teammate - he's made coming to soccer on Sundays fun. We have a chance to win every week with Mike."
Steve Lassiter
"The importance of Mike's 100th goal lies in his first 50. Without him coming back, joining the team and providing a little bit of offense for the team, I'm not sure that we would have stuck around - in the early days when it was tough to keep things going then when we were just happy to get a shot on goal. The first 50 were way more important than anything else."
Jim Stern
"He's our secret weapon up front because sometimes he's a secret to himself."
Shawn Menning
"He's the best, man. If we don't have Mike, we don't win any games. He's the second-best player I've ever gone up against. The first is this chick, she's about 45 years old, she's a Belgian indoor soccer player - best player EVAH. Seriously."
Leo Berk
"Couldn't have happened to a better guy. He deserves all of the praise we give him - the M&M's, the T-shirt, the Web site, everything. Such a nice guy - warm, welcoming, great soccer player. But he could have done it about four months earlier."
Matt Loesch
"Mike's goal was great. It's nice to see his slow-motion goal. It was pretty cool. And he didn't do a dance, but the T-shirt worked - I'll give him the T-shirt. I wanted to see some kind of dance, but that's OK. It's just great - pretty cool."
More to come ...
